The Magical World UA initiative is launching a new project: The Magical World of Ukrainian Folklore. From now on, we’ll be sharing not only stories about Ukrainian mythology but also exploring the rich and diverse world of Ukrainian folklore — its unique elements, remarkable features, and living traditions.
This project marks a new chapter for our initiative and builds on the success of our YouTube series The Encyclopedia of Ukrainian Mythology (2022–2024), which has garnered over 1.5 million views.
What are we creating?
A series of engaging, informative videos covering different genres of Ukrainian folklore — from fairy tales and folk songs to proverbs and traditional rituals.
Each episode will feature history, interesting facts, key characteristics, and regional variations, as well as highlight notable researchers, trustworthy sources, and contemporary folklorists who continue to study and preserve these traditions. Clear, concise, and focused on what matters most.
The Magical World of Ukrainian Folklore will provide essential knowledge for anyone interested in understanding the centuries-old creativity of the Ukrainian people and will serve as a powerful tool for presenting Ukraine’s folklore heritage to the world.
Why does this matter?
Ukrainian folklore is not just childhood songs and fairy tales — it’s a profound cultural treasure that shapes how Ukraine is seen globally. Today, when cultural diplomacy is a vital instrument of international dialogue, knowledge of our own intangible heritage is key to meaningful communication with the global community.
